Can’t access MOV files in Windows XP, what’s the reason?

Today my friend gave me a movie, I copied it into my XP and then I right clicked the mouse and selected ‘open’, but it could not open as expected rather it said “cannot open mov files”. What this error in occurring, although it was playing nicely on my friends computer, which means hopefully there is nothing wrong in the movie, is this my system’s fault.

MOV file extension is primarily associated with “Quick time player” of Apple Inc and playing them on Windows OS is really hard. Moreover registry errors also lead to incorrect file association. Such an error is generated by windows, due to non compatibility of file and in order to correct this problem, you need to do the following-
Search for a program using which the file can be opened, open with
Scan registry for errors as it may be damaged.
If these do not resolve the problem you will have to convert Mov files with Mov converter software for playing them on Windows media player or any other player.
