My user account password has expired is there any way by which I can log on to it?

Yesterday I switched on my system, (which is windows XP home edition) after a long time, entered the user name and password, on pressing enter key, password field was emptied and a dialog box with the following error was shown by the side-‘did you forgot your password’ click “?” to see hint, although it could not help me, neither I have a reset disk to recover forgotten password, will I have to reinstall XP. Please help, it’s urgent.

Even if you don’t have a reset disk, windows password recovery can be done, don’t worry you won’t have to reinstall XP. Just follow the below described steps, for that first of all log on as administrator for resetting expired password.
Restart the system
After pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE two times, you will have to type administrator user name and password(should be left blank if no password is specified) and click OK.
Now comes the time of resetting, one of the simplest,
• Go to start menu
• Select run, write ‘control userpassword2’ and then OK
• From users tab, choose the user name, whose password is to be reset
• Click on reset password
• On asking for new password, specify a new, then confirm it, OK
You can now restart your system and log on to it with previous user account and newly set password.
