Unable to Attach PST File to a Folder?

When I am trying to add a particular PST file to a new profile as my previous profile is damaged. For this I am setting the file to a default delivery location which is available in the 'E-mail Accounts' setup of MS Outlook. But the problem is that when I am trying to open the PST file after performing this operation, I am unable to access the data present in the file and getting the following error message:

“Errors have been detected in the file <file_path>. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool.”

Can anybody explain it to me the reason for the error message and what should I do to get the problem sorted out and attach the PST file to a new profile in Outlook?

If you are trying to attach a PST file to a new profile in Microsoft Outlook, then it is to be looked upon that the file is absolutely intact and it is free from all kinds of errors. But given some corruption in the database, you are unable to do so and hence getting the aforesaid error message.

To fix this problem, I must tell you that no repair software is required. There is an inbuilt tool present in MS Outlook called Scan PST which you can use to get your PST file free from corruption. So, the first thing that you would have to do right now is to locate this utility tool. You can do so by performing any of the following commands:

<disk drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
<disk drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
<disk drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12

When you start the tool, double click on the specific PST file that you wish to repair and it would then easily perform the operation and you can then easily attach the PST file to a new profile without any hassles.
